Confident Communicators

Updated: Mar 20

I recently attended an early childhood training course entitled 'Confident Communicators' and came away wondering how confident we are in communicating our adult needs.

Communication and Language is one of three prime areas in the EYFS and we know that children and adults who are confident communicators can express their needs, negotiate, learn and thrive. We also know that 60-90% of our communication is nonverbal.

At Little Brympton, inspired by Marshall Rosenburg's non-violent communication approach, we integrate daily feelings and needs check-ins and check-outs with the children at the beginning and end of each day, sat on a circle of logs under the liquid amber tree. Such time dedicated to each child's voice is one of my favourite times of the day. The children pictured are having a reflective moment, sat in a den that they co-created, as an expression of their interests and individuality.
