Our Environment

The cabin, our home space, has an open-plan ground floor, including the kitchen, dining area, cottage piano, comfy reading corner and rugs to play or move on.

We have child-height cupboards, where the children can access construction materials, loose parts, maths play items, small world, role play and reading resources. The expansive rug area is a great place to explore dance, music, yoga and movement in the afternoons.

The Play Shed is packed full of carefully chosen open-ended resources, materials, tools and surfaces for children to create their own projects during holiday clubs.

The shed also contains a role play café, a shop, a tinkering bench and large scale mark making spaces, which provide starting points for a huge range of creative explorations.

The studio is a versatile space, suitable for adult-supported rural crafts, such as willow weaving, clay work, flower arranging and wreath making.

It is here where we also store our things: all children have their own peg, basket and shelf space and water bottles and lunches are placed in baskets at the beginning of the day.

The studio also serves as our lunch dining area at holiday clubs.

The lawn is a great place for children to create their own play after lunch, or engage in large scale construction. 

The field is where we spend most of our mornings at our holiday clubs, den building along an oak hedge and in amongst young saplings, using twigs and brash that we coppice. The field contains a viewing point at the top, a 'Bear Cottage' cave, apple trees for harvesting and a wild flower meadow.

The field is on a steep slope, so there's ample opportunity for us to get fit and strong as we work.​ This open and expansive area allows children to roam safely, with a bluebell woods visible along one side and friendly donkeys on the other.

The Pendulous Liquidambar tree is a special holding place and one of many extraordinary legacies from the founder of Little Brympton, Albert Holman.

At our holiday clubs, we gather around Liquidambar at the beginning and end of each day, for our check-ins and check-outs. In the summer, it becomes a wonderful cave and we are encouraging its growth each year – perhaps eventually it might turn into a tunnel!
